the hit parade, or how to package records to make me buy them all.
i'm a sucker for packaging.
i always have been.
especially packaging which builds a set.
stuff that matches makes me happy.
(i dread to think what a freudian might say about that but hey).
once upon a time i bought the hit parade's "forever" 7".
i'd read about it somewhere in a now forgotten fanzine and thought it sounded neat.
and i wasn't disappointed.
it was a lovely slice of 60's tinged summery pop.
then "my favourite girl" came out.
it was more of the same and i wasn't quite as excited.
except that the covers matched.
i couldn't wait for the next one.
over the course of the next year or two, another four hit parade singles came out on JSH.
each packaged in matching covers.
unfortunately, to my ears, each one got progressively less catchy.
but i still cherish them for the covers alone.
just look!!!
